Lebe kreuz und sterbe quer

Comedy/Everyday life, Germany 1985

An exhausting family, money problems and a modern supermarket that makes him dispute his customers: Master baker Frieder Witz (Richard Gandor) has had enough of the worries of everyday life. Only a brilliant idea can help him out of a tight spot. Frieder's doctor, Doktor Froehlich (Rudolf Waldemar Brem), knows what to do. With his help, Frieder succeeds in faking his own death. Life in hiding promises to be heavenly. Freed from all obligations, he has a lot of time to finally find out what his fellow human beings actually think of him. However, there is no great dismay over Frieder's death. Instead, his frustrated relatives start a fight over his belongings before the funeral has even taken place. Frieder finds this behavior inappropriate and decides to appear as a guest at his funeral in order to put the family in their place. But once his relatives have come to terms with his death, they do not want to simply accept him again among the living.
